If You Can’t Afford a Designer Bag, Why Not DIY It?
Alyx Studio’s Chest Rig is sold out and streetwear fiends around the world are happy to DIY their own, apparently.
Alyx Studio is known for incorporating practicality and everyday materials into fashion, and their recent releases have satisfied fans all over the world. Perhaps their most sought after piece is their ‘Chest Rig’, but it won’t come without a hefty price tag.
Their pieces are usually pretty bold and weird, but somehow still extremely wearable, and the Chest Rig is no exception. The bag is their hands free answer to a side-bag, as it slips over the wearer’s head and clips together at the back.
Seems pretty simple doesn’t it? But fans all over the world are looking for alternatives, and there is even a string of YouTube videos, telling hunters how to create their own Alyx Studio Chest Rig, so they don’t have to drop AUD $1000+ (resale that is).
The bags are made of a technical nylon fabric with Cordura details, adjustable Cordura straps and a mesh back panel. There are larger and smaller zip pockets for you to use as you please, along with zipper detailing.
The bag has a definite utilitarian feel and kind of looks like a military vest, but that makes it even more appealing in this day and age. It’s available in black, white, navy blue and army green. But white and black colourways seem to be the most popular option, if you’re willing to spend the money.
The original retail price is around $750, which isn’t too bad for a designer piece, but of course they’re sold out. If you’re desperate, they’re currently for sale on Grailed for $900-$1,200. One listing’s description simply reads; “Alyx Chest Rig bag, brand new, sold out everywhere.” And that pretty much sums up it up... overly expensive, and sold out everywhere.
This alone is a good enough reason for streetwear fanatics to fork out for the elusive Chest Rig, or head to YouTube to make your own.
