Mercedes-Benz Release a Sneak Peek of the Smokin’ Maybach 9

Few cars in existence embody opulence quite like a Maybach. With the opening of the Beijing Auto Show, Mercedes-Benz is providing a sneak peek at the newest family member of luxury cars beyond comparison.

Codenamed Maybach 9, the new model is a take on the Mercedes-Benz GLS SUV. Leaked photos of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS present a sport utility vehicle that maintains the signature Maybach body design. But while the lines say car, its stance and stature say this is a luxury vehicle that stands with premium SUV's made by Range Rover and Audi.

The teaser video found on the Mercedes-Benz Facebook page is even more impressive. The original GLS includes three rows of seats to fit seven. The Mercedes-Maybach GLS is not designed for maximum occupancy but for maximum comfort. The third row of seats has been eliminated, presumably to allow for reclining seats and to maximise legroom.

The centre console stretches from the front dashboard all the way to the back of the car, behind the seats. It resembles consoles more commonly found in yachts, which suits the Maybach well. The section between the two rear seats includes space for a full tea set for two inside a climate-controlled compartment.

The driver's seat is spacious and comfortable. Behind a striking steering wheel, lies a digital instrument panel that stretches to the centre console. If the chauffeur is unavailable or wishes to take their hands off the wheel, the Mercedes-Maybach GLS is equipped with autonomous driving capabilities.

The power specifications were not released but will likely range from a turbocharged V8 model to a plug-in hybrid option. Like specifics under the hood, Mercedes is also refraining from announcing a price. Judging from what we can see and what we can speculate, a USD $250,000 window sticker would not be a surprise.
