There’s a Huge KAWS Sculpture in Qatar
Hamad International Airport is now on our 'Places to Visit' list thanks to a 32-foot KAWS Companion installation.
Qatar’s Hamad International Airport just landed itself on our ‘Places to Visit’ list. Earlier this week, @qatar_museums Instagram account released an image from the airport of a pretty fucking huge ‘Small Lie’ Companion installation by well-loved American pop artist and designer KAWS.
So how “fucking huge” is the installation? The chairperson of the Qatar Museum - H.E. Al Mayassa Al Thani revealed that it is 32-feet-tall! This will be the biggest installation that Hamad International Airport will have, ahead of Urs Fischer’s ‘Lamp Bear’.
KAWS’ installation measures at about 1000 x 464 x 427 cm and is made out of African hardwood.
The sculpture resembles his previous Small Lie Companion at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in England, and although it is similar in height and material, what differs is that the new Qatar-based version has a Pinocchio inspired frame, while the English version has a simpler form.
The installation will be set up alongside the 23-foot canary yellow Lamp Bear in the airport’s grand foyer.
