Kirk Cousins Is Getting Paid

He's never won a playoff game, but 30 year old QB Kirk Cousins has just become the highest paid player in the NFL.

It seems like every offseason we talk about the absurd amounts of money being offered to NFL players - particularly quarterbacks - and this offseason is no exception with Kirk Cousins set to become the highest paid player in the league.

Despite never winning a playoff game, the 29 year old Cousins will move to the Minnesota Vikings in a three year, USD $84 million deal, ending his six year tenure at Washington, and making his annual salary a guaranteed $28 million for the next three years.

The deal surpasses Detroit Lions’ quarterback Matthew Stafford’s annual salary of $27 million, and is expected to create a free agency frenzy with so many other QBs looking for a new deal, and all will be buoyant by the generosity of Cousins’ new contract.

While the Redskins have turned to former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith, the Vikings are counting on Kirk to take them one step further than last season, and lead them to their first Super Bowl appearance since 1977.

After losing convincingly to eventual champions Philadelphia in last season’s NFC Championship game (and missing out on the opportunity to play in a Super Bowl at their home stadium), the scrutiny on Minnesota and their highly paid new quarterback will be a constant theme from the moment the new season begins.

Although the NFL schedule is not officially released until the middle of April, fans and pundits are already looking forward to the two NFC North matchups between the Vikings and Lions, as Cousins and Stafford will go head-to-head in a battle between the two highest paid players in the NFL.

With Cousins yet to win a playoff game, a certain infamous catchphrase is arguably the highlight of his career so far:
