The Rock and John Cena Attempt to Ignite Their WWE Rivalry.
The Rock and John Cena used to be big rivals, but these days it seems the two have struck up a friendship. Or have they?
Recently, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and John Cena appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live one night apart from each other, to promote their new movies Rampage and Blockers, respectively.
The two WWE legends appearing on the same show, one night apart, naturally framed the conversation towards their history. Both The Rock and Cena started their careers in the WWE in the late 90s and have transitioned out of the ring and onto the big screen.
During his interview, The Rock mentioned that in their WWE years, the two had a real problem with each other. Despite the WWE being fictionalised and scripted, their rivalry was real.
The Rock laughed as he said “We had real issues with each other”, but went on to say that the pair are now good friends, and that he barracks for Cena to win when he is “competing” in the ring.
But the man who was once known as “The People’s Champion” didn’t let it go that easily, telling John Cena that “If he ever plays up, I will kick his teeth so far down his throat that he will have to stick a toothbrush up his ass to brush them.”
When Cena appeared the next night, Kimmel was quick to get his response regarding The Rock’s threats.
Cena had a very passionate message for The Rock, saying “If you think shoving a toothbrush up my butt is a threat.. there’s been a funnel up there, there’s been a parking cone up there. There’s been more traffic up there than a monday morning on the 405.”
He didn’t stop there either, going on to explain that toothbrushes and toothpaste are for cleaning, so if The Rock wants the job he should “bring a body suit and latex gloves. Because down there it’s like a Mississippi corn field in a downpour.”
Cena was definitely mocking being offended and aggressive, and even stopped mid speak to clarify that “ by ‘pal’, I totally mean my best friend and I don't mean it as an adversarial term”.
It appears that both figures plan on keeping some parts of their WWE rivalry alive. Stay tuned.
