Why the Giants Won’t Be Trading Odell Beckham Jr.

Odell Beckham Jr. has made headlines from the moment he arrived in New York, but his best is yet to come.

Despite the constant rumours surrounding his future, the New York Giants should not, and (probably) will not trade its star receiver, Odell Beckham Jr.

The flamboyant and sometimes problematic wide receiver has been making headlines on and off the field since the moment he debuted for ‘Big Blue’ in 2014, and after a tumultuous 2017 for the entire Giants franchise, speculation is rampant that Odell could now be on his way out.

Reports are suggesting that he could be traded for two first-round draft picks, and there is a chance that a trade could be made during this year’s NFL Draft. Although the New York media are dedicating several pages every day to this possible trade, we truly believe that it is nothing but speculation, and the Giants will not be trading Beckham. Here are a few reasons why…

The Giants are coming off a terrible season

After a promising 2016 season, everything went wrong for the Giants in 2017. Injuries, player indiscipline, embarrassing losses and the eventual firing of their head coach made it a rough year for Giants fans, which is why they need everything to go right in 2018. They have the number two pick in the draft, and will need established stars such as Odell Beckham Jr. and Eli Manning to hit the ground running as soon as the new season begins.

Odell is a star, on and off the field

If there’s one thing New York sports fans love, it’s star power. Odell Beckham Jr. is arguably the biggest sports star in the New York market right now, with fellow young guns Kristaps Porziņģis (Knicks) and Aaron Judge (Yankees) also the talk of the town. The Giants need all the star power they can get to remain relevant and sell (very expensive) season tickets, and hence Odell is a crucial piece of the puzzle.

He’s only 25 years old

It feels like he has been around forever, but Odell Beckham Jr. is only 25 years old, and won’t be turning 26 until November this year, meaning his best years should still be yet to come. With age comes maturity and although Odell has done some immature, yet mostly harmless things during his time with the Giants, he has the chance to become a leader and an NFL legend. The Giants have invested too much to lose him and his brilliant catching abilities just yet.
