Will Smith’s Custom Nike “Bel Airs”
The Fresh Prince was recently gifted a custom made pair of Nike Air More Uptempo sneakers. And now we also want a pair.
Will Smith might be best known for his role in The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and he was just gifted an awesome reminder of the hit 90s TV show by tattoo artist Jimmy Butcher, also known as @thebutcherbrand.
Butcher sent Smith a pair of Nike Air More Uptempo sneakers, customised with bright colours and patterned spray paint. On his Instagram, the artist called the shoes "Bel Airs", a pun on the famous TV Show that inspired them.
The show in question aired through most of the 90s and shaped pop culture and style throughout the decade. It was an iconic part of many's childhoods and ended up raking in millions during its six years of filming. There were rumours of a reboot in February, but Will Smith along with a few other former castmates dispelled them.
The Fresh Prince himself featured his new kicks on Instagram along with the letter that Butcher sent. These shoes were originally all white but now feature bright pink and green lettering over the "AIR" written on the side, mimicking the show's memorable logo.
These shoes just ooze 90s vibes heel to toe, with plenty of dotting and a few paint splatters. They are full of neon colours that are reminiscent of highlighter markers.
Will appeared pretty excited to get these customs, giving Jimmy Butcher a shout out on the post he shared and captioning it "Hot Art & Kind Words". In the hand-written letter sent with the shoes, Butcher mentions cultural and creative interests that are presumably very closely connected to Will Smith.
These shoes are probably just as nostalgic for Mr. July as they are for the rest of us!
