Heads Up, J. Cole’s New Album Drops 20th April, 2018

Through a string of tweets and secret gigs, J. Cole has revealed that his new album is coming this Friday.

Cole fans can rejoice now the Fayetteville, N.C., rapper has announced via a string of tweets and secret gigs, that he is dropping his new album KOD this Friday, April 20th.

On April 16th, Cole hosted an intimate, first in, best dressed gig at Gramercy Theatre in New York where he played all 12 tracks from the forthcoming album. After the gig, J.Cole confirmed the release date, in the tweet “New album. KOD. 4/20”.

A fan at the NYC show said that Cole requested attendees to keep the details of the listening session under wraps. Wishful thinking Jermaine! According to Rap Radar’s Brian ‘B.Dot’ Miller, the new album includes ‘experimental flows and sounds’. This has us very excited.

According to a Gramercy show attendee, J.Cole spoke for 20 minutes about how the project came to life and the meaning behind each track. He also revealed that the bulk of the album was recorded in just two weeks, though he did venture back to the studio to re-record and perfect the album’s last three tracks.

Cole explained that the album title has three different meanings,’Kids On Drugs’, ‘King Overdose’ and ‘Kill Our Demons’. When further discussing the ‘Kids on Drugs’ definition, Cole explained it is a reference to recreational drugs, and the larger and more lethal issue of prescription drugs, which are used to mask personal issues in young people.

On April 18th, J.Cole tweeted a second flyer inviting fans to meet him for another secret gig, this time in London. Again, the show rules forbid phones, bags and cameras.

KOD will be J.Cole’s first album since 2016’s 4 Your Eyez Only, and his fifth studio album.
