Jeff Horn’s Opponent Promises to “Fuck Him Up”
While the fight may be delayed, the trash talking has increased between Aussie Jeff Horn and American Terence Crawford.
Welterweight world champion, Australia’s own Jeff Horn will have to wait for his American debut, after the April 15 bout against fellow undefeated fighter Terence Crawford was postponed, due to Crawford injuring his hand while training for the fight.
Despite the delay, and Horn’s polite demeanour (highly unusual for a world champion boxer), the trash talk for the fight has unexpectedly escalated.
Brisbane born and bred Horn accused Crawford of manufacturing excuses and delaying the fight out of fear, telling the American fighter “toughen up princess”. Unsurprisingly, this hit a nerve with ‘Bud’ Crawford and his team, sparking fierce reactions. “Keep my belt warm because I’m fucking you up come fight night”, said Crawford.
Crawford’s manager Brian McIntyre then went a step further and promised the world that Horn would not last seven rounds, “I guarantee you Terence will win this fight inside seven”, and claimed that Horn, despite a heroic win over global superstar Manny Pacquiao last July, was “not in the same class” as his fighter.
The entire build up to this fight has been somewhat peculiar. First, we were told it was taking place at Madison Square Garden, before switching to Las Vegas. It was then promised that Pacquiao would appear on the undercard, but the Filipino icon had too much pride to not be the headline act, and declined this offer.
Now the fight has been delayed and although it is expected to be held in late May or early June, no formal date has been set, which is a huge inconvenience to the Australian boxing fans who initially planned on flying over for this fight, not to mention the fighters themselves.
Until the fight is formally rescheduled, we’ll just have to enjoy the trash talk being exchanged from one side of the world to the other.
