March Madness Is…Mad

This year's tournament has been filled with shock results and epic comebacks. And the good news is it's only just beginning.

After four consecutive days of NCAA March Madness, we have came to the conclusion that March Madness is… mad!

Only 16 teams remain from the original 64 who entered the knockout tournament, and if the first two rounds are anything to go by, you do not want to miss the Sweet Sixteen beginning on Friday.

If you are not familiar with March Madness and haven’t read our guide, the best 64 teams in College Basketball are split into four regions and seeded from one to 16 within that specific region.

The tournament is only just getting started, but it has been dubbed ‘March Sadness’ for many higher ranked teams due to some major upsets so far, including losses by two number one seeds and the second seeded North Carolina - last year’s champions.

In the biggest shock of them all, 16th seeded UMCB, from Baltimore, upset tournament favourites Virginia on Saturday afternoon. Prior to this year, number one seeds were 135-0 against 16th ranked seeds

Ninth seed Florida State is known for being a college football powerhouse, but their basketball team have had their moment in the sun by stunning Xavier, also a number one seed, while highly fancied North Carolina had their dreams of going back-to-back shattered by Texas A&M.

However, the most stunning performance of the tournament so far goes to Nevada, who rallied from 22 points down in the final 11 minutes to defeat the number two seeded Cincinnati. According to ESPN, Cincy’s win probability was at 99.9% with 10 minutes and 59 seconds left on the clock. What happened next was a comeback for the ages.

After a thrilling opening to the tournament, it’s time to rest up and get ready for the Sweet 16!
