Pokemon x FILA Sneaker Release

The famous catchphrase “Gotta Catch ‘Em All” now applies to a rare sneaker collaboration between Pokemon and FILA.

The iconic catchphrase: “Gotta Catch ‘Em All” rings true for the latest collaboration between Pokémon and FILA, following the announcement of a limited edition sneaker release.

Both brands have enjoyed a strong presence recently, so it’s no surprise that FILA have decided to jump on the anime bandwagon, following many other labels to do so. With a Pokémon x SPAO exclusive sweater collection being released two years ago and a successful partnership with HYPE in 2016, Pokémon continues to break the barriers into the fashion world.

FILA have also been known for their stand-out collaborations over the years, teaming up with names including BAPE, BNP Paribas and Fendi, so adding the Japanese anime brand to their calibre is a safe bet. Fans have been rejoicing about their throwback stylistic choices recently, and this new alliance will be most likely generate similar feedback.

The minimalist silhouette is on their classical court-style shoe which features a white base, adjustable velcro straps and the distinct FILA logo. The partnership however, has brought in a contrasting colour-blocked heel featuring five different colours to represent the main characters in the franchise: Orange for Charmander, Blue for Squirtle, Green for Bulbasaur, Pink for Jigglypuff and Yellow for Pikachu. The colourful heel is accompanied by simple motifs (for example, the blue shoe features a water symbol) as well as the iconic pokéball on the tongue of the shoe.

These thought-out details are what makes this collaboration so unique, while still being accessible to their target audience. FILA has carefully thought out every aspect of the shoe - something that the brand is known for - right up to your fresh pair arriving in a special limited-edition shoe-box. They’ll set you back USD $63, and are more affordable than many other exclusive drops nowadays.

Unfortunately for poke-fans and sneakerheads, you’re going to need a masterball to catch these rare kicks, as they are currently being sold as a South Korean exclusive.

There are no current plans for the shoes to make their way over to Australia.
