ICYMI the Official Trailer for ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ Has Been Released

The new trailer drops a little more information on the storyline, new characters, and promises a wild ride.

New Star Wars prequel Solo: A Star Wars Story is due for release next month and has finally received its first official trailer, rather than the aptly categorised ‘teaser’, released in February.

The ‘Solo’ plot has been kept tightly under wraps, though the new clip exposes a little more of what we can expect from the movie. The trailer also introduces a number of key characters.

The film follows Han Solo during his younger years, drifting the Millennium Falcon through the galaxy on his way to becoming the Rebel Alliance ally we all loved in the OG franchise films.

Solo: A Star Wars Story has us anticipating first meetings with the beloved Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian, played by office favourite, Donald Glover. It looks like we’ll witness the famed game of Sabacc, delivering Han Solo the Millennium Falcon from Lando.

Thanks to new production photos, we now know that pasty-creep-for-hire, Paul Bettany, plays the crime lord Dryden Vos, the story’s primary villain.

According to Star Wars fan site, Wookieepedia, the character Tobias Beckett (played by Woody Harrelson) is based on Robert Louis Stevenson's 1883 novel Treasure Island. Beckett is thought to play a mentor to a young Solo.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is the first film where Han Solo is played by someone other than Harrison Ford. Alden Ehrenreich, a 28 year-old Los Angeles native, previously appearing in not much at all, will be skippering the Millennium Falcon. Ford is a tough act to follow, Alden. Best of luck, son.

The film’s new trailer (see bottom of this article) introduces the new character Qi’Ra, played by Emilia Clarke. Predictably, Han Solo will be vying for Qi’Ra’s affection. Hopefully, a minor subplot.

The late arrival of the teasers have fans speculating that Disney is lacking confidence in the film. Fanboys are an anxious lot. We’re happy to wait, judge the film on its merits, and hopefully have a good time in the process.

Solo: A Star Wars Story will be released in Australia on May 24th. In the meantime, watch the previous teaser and the new trailer below.
